Social Studies

PASSPORTS

Passports (Grades K-5): Social studies is the study of our society and history. Connection to the students' lives is a key component of PS 163x's philosophy of learning social studies. Students in our youngest grades learn about families, our local community, the city, and New York history. The upper grades learn about civilizations and countries such as Indigenous peoples of the Americas, Nigeria, Peru, China, and the Dominican Republic. The NYCDOE K–8 Passport to Social Studies curriculum challenges students to think like historians and encourages them to raise questions, think critically, consider many perspectives, and gather evidence in support of their interpretations through research.
