CEC MEETING - TUESDAY, APRIL 21ST

Dear District 9 Families,

We invite you to join us this evening for the Community Education Council (CEC) meeting. The CEC plays an important role in shaping our schools by advising on educational policies, school priorities, and resources that directly impact our children.

Your voice matters. When parents and caregivers participate, we help ensure that decisions reflect the real needs, experiences, and hopes of our school communities. This meeting is a valuable opportunity to stay informed, ask questions, and share your perspectives.

To make participation easier, families have two ways to join:

  • In person, or
  • Virtually, using the QR code on the flyer to access meeting details and the online link.

We hope you will take this opportunity to be heard and to help strengthen education in District 9.

Nous vous invitons à vous joindre à nous ce soir pour la réunion du Conseil d’Éducation Communautaire (CEC). Le CEC joue un rôle essentiel en conseillant sur les politiques éducatives, les priorités scolaires et les ressources qui ont un impact direct sur l’éducation de nos enfants.

La voix des parents est essentielle. Lorsque les parents et les personnes responsables participent, ils contribuent à ce que les décisions reflètent les véritables besoins, expériences et aspirations de nos communautés scolaires. Cette réunion est une excellente occasion de rester informé, de poser des questions et de partager votre point de vue.

Afin de faciliter la participation, les familles ont deux options pour se joindre à la réunion :

Attendance at school every day is IMPORTANT!!

Did you know that missing just two days of school can add up to 18 missed days a year? That’s chronic absenteeism and it starts as early as pre-k. When students miss school, they lose instruction time, may fall behind academically, and may struggle with confidence and making connections. These absences have a lasting impact on their learning and development. 

At NYC Public Schools, we believe every day matters. Our schools are safe and supportive environments, and the classroom is a better place when our students are here.

  • REMOTE LEARNING - MONDAY, JANUARY 26th

    For Monday, January 26th, all new york city public schools will be learning remotely, for all students. Students will not, come to the school building tomorrow, and will work with their teachers remotely through Google Classroom, and Google Meet. Your child's teacher has been working to prepare for this remote learning time, and will be available tomorrow to support everyone in getting connected and participated in learning.

     
    Para el lunes 26 de enero, todas las escuelas públicas de la ciudad de Nueva York impartirán clases a distancia para todos los estudiantes. Los estudiantes no deberán asistir al edificio escolar mañana y trabajarán con sus maestros de forma remota a través de Google Classroom y Google Meet. El maestro de su hijo ha estado trabajando para preparar este período de aprendizaje a distancia y estará disponible mañana para ayudar a todos a conectarse y participar en las clases.
     
    Pour le lundi 26 janvier, toutes les écoles publiques de New York dispenseront des cours à distance pour tous les élèves. Les élèves ne devront pas se rendre à l'école demain et travailleront avec leurs enseignants à distance via Google Classroom et Google Meet.     Low-Cost Internet Plans

    Altice (also known as Optimum)

    Altice offers Altice Advantage, a plan that starts at $14.99/month. To qualify, you must be:

    • eligible for--or participate in--the National School Lunch Program (NSLP); or
    • a New York City resident who attends a New York City public school; or
    • eligible for--or receive--Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and 65 years of age or older; or
    • a veteran and receive state or federal public assistance.

    Charter (also known as Spectrum)

    Charter offers Spectrum Internet Assist, a plan that starts at $14.99/month. To qualify, one or more members of your household must be a recipient of one of the following assistance programs:

    • National School Lunch Program (NSLP) 
    • Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the NSLP 
    • Supplemental Security Income (for applicants age 65+ only) 

    Verizon

    Verizon offers the Lifeline program, a plan that starts at $19.99/month. To qualify:

    • Your annual income is at 135% or less than of the U.S. federal poverty guidelines
    • You, or someone in your household, participates in a qualifying federal assistance program:
      • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (formerly known as food stamps), or
      • Medicaid, or
      • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) 
      • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA) 
      • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit 
      • Tribal Programs (and live on federally-recognized Tribal lands)
